Third Major Garments In Bangladesh

The supplier country, the second largest supplier of sweaters and jeans, is the second largest supplier of cotton trousers in the US market last year.


According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) statistics, in 2009-2010, Bangladesh's clothing exports amounted to US $12 billion 590 million, accounting for 80% of the total export volume of Bangladesh.

After President Obama set up a trade law to promote Haiti's economic development, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) followed the announcement of the opening of the Haiti clothing Centre (HAC).

This new preferential policy will increase the labor force of private enterprises in Haiti. The centre will train more than 2000 professionals every year to meet the demand of skilled workers in Haiti's clothing industry.


In addition to providing vocational training, the center will further help Haiti to benefit from the Haiti economic lifts plan (HELP), which was passed in May, and improved the market access of Haiti's clothing exports to the United States.


In 1980s, there were about 150 thousand garment workers in Haiti, and now there are about 20 thousand garment workers.

In 2009, Haiti's clothing exports to the United States valued at about $512 million and employed more than 25000 Haitians.
