The standard for harmful substances in leather and fur (GB20400-2006) was enforced in December 1st.

The requirements for the limits of hazardous substances in this standard are consistent with the requirements of the European Union, Japan and the United States for the prohibition of hazardous substances. It is put forward by the China Light Industry Federation and is standardized by the National Leather Industry Standardization Technical Committee.

The drafting units involved in the standard are: China leather and footwear industry research institute, national fur quality supervision and inspection center, Jiaxing entry exit inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Xinji Bai Li Leather Industry Co., Ltd. and Xinxiang Kuroda Akiryo Leather Manufacturing Co., Ltd.

This standard mainly stipulates the limit value of azo dyes and free formaldehyde, and specifies the limit of harmful substances in leather and fur products and its testing methods, which is suitable for daily leather and fur products.

The export products conform to the stipulations of the export contract or the importing country.

At the same time, it is emphasized that the determination of azo dyes should be carried out according to the regulations of GB/T19942.
