The Vietnam News Agency reported recently that Mei Jinyong, director of the general office of the Vietnamese government, presided over a meeting on October 13 to solicit the opinions of various ministries and commissions on the proposal of "reforming the mode of quality inspection and food safety inspection of imported commodities".

Wu Shimei, Vice Minister of the Ministry of finance, said that for some time, under the strong guidance of the government, the professional inspection of imported commodities has achieved certain results, but it still can not meet the requirements of administrative reform and has not achieved a breakthrough change in the professional inspection of imported commodities. The proposal of "reforming the mode of quality inspection and food safety inspection of imported commodities" aims to reduce the cost and time of customs clearance, facilitate enterprises, protect the legitimate rights and interests of commercial institutions, operators and consumers, and improve the efficiency of quality management of imported commodities.

Wu said that the process would be simplified and inspection procedures would be reduced. The new (inspection) model could save about $399 million annually.
