Focus On Foreign Trade: China'S Textile And Clothing Exports Fell Again In May

The China Textile Import and Export Chamber of Commerce disclosed on the 7th that China's textile and clothing exports fell again in May, and the decline rate of textile exports exceeded that of clothing.

The China Chamber of Commerce for Textile Imports and Exports said that China's textile and clothing exports fell again in May after the recovery of supply chain and high export base in the same period last year were superimposed on the situation that foreign demand has not yet recovered effectively. In dollar terms, exports fell 13.1% year on year and 1.3% month on month. From January to May, the cumulative year-on-year decrease was 5.3%, 2.4 percentage points higher than that of the previous month. From the perspective of export commodity category, due to the decline in overseas demand and the decrease in garment export orders of Southeast Asian countries, China's export of intermediate goods fell faster than that of end consumer goods. In May, textile exports fell 14.2% year on year and 5.6% month on month; Clothing exports slightly stabilized, down 12.2% year on year and up 3% month on month.

In RMB terms, China's textile and clothing exports: from January to May 2023, the cumulative export of textile and clothing was 812.37 billion yuan, an increase of 2.1% over the same period last year (the same below), of which the textile export was 390.48 billion yuan, down 2.4%; Garment exports reached 421.89 billion yuan, up 6.6%.

In May, China's textile and clothing exports reached 174.07 billion yuan, down 10.8% year on year and 1.1% month on month. The textile export was 82.64 billion yuan, down 11.9% and 5.5% month on month; Garment exports totaled 91.43 billion yuan, down 9.8% and up 3.2% month on month.

In dollar terms, China's textile and clothing exports: from January to May 2023, the cumulative export of textile and clothing will be 118.2 billion dollars, down 5.3%, of which the textile export will be 56.83 billion dollars, down 9.4%; Clothing exports reached 61.37 billion US dollars, down 1.1%.

In May, China's textile and clothing exports reached US $25.32 billion, down 13.1% and 1.3% month on month. Among them, textile exports reached US $12.02 billion, down 14.2% and 5.6% month on month; Clothing exports reached US $13.3 billion, down 12.2% and up 3% month on month. (End)
