It is unlikely that the estimate is expected to increase by 10%, to a record high of 32 million 500 thousand bags.

Comprehensive media reported on December 14th, a senior government official said on Tuesday.

The annual cotton output of this crop is unlikely to be lower than the previous estimate, although heavy rain has recently caused damage to some crops in the main producing areas of the south.

In August, the India Cotton Advisory Committee (Cotton Advisory Board) said that in the year of October 1st, the cotton production in India will increase by 10%, to a record high of 32 million 500 thousand bags, 170 kg per pack, due to increased planting area.

India is the second largest cotton producer in the world.

Federal textile Commissioner A.B. Joshi told reporters at the gap of the industry conference: "last month, the rain of Andhra Pradesh, the largest cotton producer in India, damaged part of the crops, but Ma Kharash Te Lanban (Maharashtra)'s cotton production increased." Joshi

The Ministry of Meteorology of India said that during the period from October 1st to December 8th, the rainfall reached 321.2 millimeters in the southern Andhra Pradesh state, an increase of 62% over the 50 year average level of 198 millimeters.

In August, the India Cotton Advisory Committee estimated that the cotton output of Andhra Pradesh state in 2010-11 would reach about 6 million 600 thousand packages, an increase of 27% over last year.

Cotton production in India is expected to be 29 million 500 thousand bales (2009/10) per year.

Joshi said western Maharashtra cotton production is expected to be higher than the previous estimate of 7 million 700 thousand bales.

It is the second largest cotton producing area in India.

However, he did not give a revised estimate of cotton production in the two states.

There is a big difference in the forecast of cotton production in India in 2010-11.

The Confederation of Indian Textile Industry estimated that the output of cotton would be about 30 million bales, while the other trade organization would forecast output of more than 34 million bales.

The India Cotton Advisory Committee will hold a meeting in January to assess cotton production, planting area and other detailed data in India in 2010-11.

The increase in cotton production may allow the federal government to export more cotton in the future.

As of November 1st, India exported 5 million 500 thousand bales of cotton and the export deadline was December 15th.

The government has indicated that it will assess the quantity of exported cotton before deciding whether to extend the export deadline.
