Brazil Import Tax

According to the latest report of Brazil Lianhe Bao, the Brazil government has imposed import duties on clothing, footwear and knitwear imported from the southern communist countries since September 28th to cope with the impact of cheap Asian similar products.

According to this decision, the tariff rate of footwear and clothing imported from Brazil will rise from 20% to 35%, and the duty rate of knitwear will rise from 18% to 26%.

In addition, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay of the Communist Party of South China launched similar measures at the same time to protect their related industries.

At the beginning of this year, the Federation of Brazil footwear and garment production enterprises said that Brazil's industry was affected by the appreciation of the currency Real and the impact of similar products in Asia.

The group strongly appealed to the government of Brazil to increase import tax on footwear and clothing products to enhance the competitiveness of its products.

Over the past 3 years, Real has appreciated 35.8% against the US dollar, resulting in a sharp decline in the export of Brazil's textile and clothing products.

In 2006, Brazil's textile and garment industry had its first deficit since 2000.

In addition, the footwear industry in Brazil is also facing tremendous pressure from the footwear industry in Asia.

From January to July this year, the total import of footwear products from Brazil reached 110 million US dollars, an increase of 65% over the whole year of 2006.
